Diminishing Indian Embroideries Workshop: In this 2-hour workshop participants will be introduced to diminishing Indian embroideries that have traditions of mending and repair dating back centuries. Participants will learn how slow making and sustainability have been a part of a lot of cultures for generations, with a focus on Kutch Embroidery from the state of Gujarat. Kutch embroidery is an umbrella term for various embroidery techniques practised across the state of Gujarat and participants will get to create their own keepsake miniature embroidered artworks. Participants will learn how these embroideries have traditions of repair and can be employed in different forms of mending like visible mending, surface embellishment, applique and patchwork.
What to bring: All materials will be provided.
Facilitators: Coven, made up of interdisciplinary designers Anchita and Kavya, aims to create a space for people to learn new skills, engage in discussions around sustainability and explore creativity as a form of perception, without expectations. By delving into ‘making’ as a form of self-expression and community building; they hope to encourage people to regain value and emotional connection towards materials as well as rebuild lost human connections.
