What is Shibari?
Shibari is a Japanese art form of intricate rope bondage, tracing its origins to the ancient tradition of Hojojutsu, a method of restraining prisoners during the Edo period. It evolved into an artistic practice in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, Shibari can encompass artistic elements, emphasising aesthetics, with Shibari/ Rope influenced art installations worldwide.
